Africa Annual Conference on China – Africa Cooperation
On 18th –19th August, 2020, under the China-Africa Joint Research and Exchange Programme, the Africa Policy Institute (China-Africa Center) in partnership with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Kenya, co-hosted a two day conference on “Enhancing China-Africa cooperation on fighting Covid-19 and promoting manufacturing.”The conference was held at the Villa Rossa Kempinski www.kempinski.com.
The promotion of manufacturing and industrialization has been a critical area of China-Africa cooperation since 2000, when the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was establishedhttp://chinaafricacooperation.africapi.org/.
This was a hybrid conference with physical participants observing all the WHO recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19. There were 15 participants observingsocial distancing, frequent sanitizing and using masks and the rest of the participants joint the event virtually via zoom.
The set up involved using gooseneck microphones for every participant to avoid sharing, revolving camera that was self-adjusting, connected to the PA system and LED Screens and speakers.Successful event happen when we integrate technology to bring people together. The participants explored measures for promoting industrialization in Africa whilefighting Covid-19, and prospects for progress in the post-COVID era.
